Colm Cussen of ABS Engineering graduated from LIT Limerick in 2003 having completed a course in electrical engineering.

Limerick Institute of Technology is a leading institution of higher education in the midwest region, and is one of 14 member institutions of the Technological Higher Education Association.

In February 2017, Colm Cussen founded ABS Engineering Control Systems Ltd at his home in Broadford, County Limerick. ABS design and install Building Management Systems (BMS) for new and existing buildings. Their products manage functions such as heating, cooling, energy usage and monitoring from a centralised location which can be accessed both on-site and remotely. These products have a transformative impact on energy usage and energy cost, as well as automating processes which previously required manual intervention.

At ABS Engineering, they provide building energy management through the optimisation of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and BMS systems. This is achieved by refining the operation of existing plants and the installation of energy efficiency equipment where necessary. These products are particularly well placed in the established Green Energy sector as well as the emerging IoT (Internet of Things) sector.

Pat Breen TD, Minister for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, officially opened ABS Engineering Control Systems Ltd’s new premises at Castlemahon, Newcastle West, County Limerick on Friday 19th October 2018.
ABS Engineering was part of a substantial job creation initiative where 9 small businesses created a total of 106 jobs in the Limerick, Clare, and Tipperary areas, all supported by their Local Enterprise Office.

Recently ABS Engineering won”Best Manufacturing Company” and Colm Cussen won “Entrepreneur of the Year 2019”, at the Limerick final of the National Enterprise Awards and went on to secure the regional title at the finals at Mansion House Dublin on May 29th.

On Wednesday 12th June 2019, Colm will return to his roots at Limerick Institute of Technology, where he and his team will showcase their business at the Manufacturing Solutions Conference. This event is organised by the Limerick Institute of Technology & GTMA (Gauge and Tool Makers Association). This is a fantastic platform bringing all of the leading technology suppliers in the region together to network and demonstrate their areas of excellence.
